Transition North Twin Cities
The Community Served
This is a group for people who live in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis and St. Paul, primarily Coon Rapids, Blaine, Brooklyn Park, Shoreview, Andover, Anoka, Ramsey, East Bethel, Fridley, and New Brighton.
Transition North Twin Cities has been meeting since the fall of 2013 and the group has grown to about 40 people. Meetings are typically held on Monday evenings in homes, in the community room at a local grocery store, and at parks or coffee shops in Coon Rapids or Blaine. Typically 5 to 15 people will attend a gathering. Everyone is welcome!
The group tries to follow the Transition model and finds the concepts of peak oil and climate change big motivators in driving behavior change.
Programs & Activities
Group members come together to share ideas and support each other in transitioning to more intentional ways of living. Past activities have included:
- Watching movies
- Sharing gardening knowledge and the bounty of our gardens
- Learning to forage
- Helping each other implement permaculture practices in our yards and gardens
- Sharing resources
- Sharing ideas and talking about climate change and peak oil
Because of the large geographic area this group covers, they tend to focus more on creating connections with the people who come to the meetings rather than working in community.
